Pushed from ongoing succession war by defeat along the Enchanted River, Loric of Taeglin and his companions continue the quest of Sir Palendar, which is to find the Sword of the Dragon’s Eye and use it to empower one king to rule Beledon. The band holds a piece of the sword, the Dragon’s Eye. Now they must journey to the east, to Woodhall Temple, where the spirit of Andokandazur dwells. However, treachery and division rule the group, just as it rules their country, preventing them leaving Dimwood Forest without challenges from within, as well as from the Spirit Men and the beast those tribal peoples worship.

With his country broken and leaderless, and Princess Avalana captive of King Hadregeon and the barbarian king, Turtioc, Loric must overcome rival knights and Walking Bones to find the lost temple he seeks. Worse, he must find a way to defeat the dragon that killed Great King Donigan in times of old, Andokandazur the Black.

With the help of Warnyck and Barag, a hermit High Priest, the Rightful Knights and a maj’i, Loric races to find the weapon of legend and return to war that now favors treacherous enemies, that he might save his beloved Avalana. With Aldric’s propensity to wield lies of lords and murderous slaughter carried out by Lord Garrick’s son, Garrett, questions of faith, trust and loyalty plague Loric, who seeks not only to locate the sword known as the Fire of Kings, but also to choose a lord worthy to wield it and govern the People of Beledon.

From 5 star rating of his previous series to a 1-STAR rating is bad news. The plot could have been good however, there was so much superfluous writing in it that you became bored reading before the authors returned to something meaningful. It was like they wrote the story and then went back and added as much additional writing as they could to stretch the content into additional books. This rating comes after a 5-STAR rating of all 7 of his "Sovereign of the Seven Isles" books. I have never been so disappointed with an authors books in my life. I struggled through the first "Dragon Eyes" book and gave up halfway through the second book. Some of the events were so childishly written that they became beyond fantasy. I would hope that the author would return to his previous style of writing. This is the first series of books that have been co-authored by his daughter Rebecca, which could be the reason for the change in style. I can only presume that the people that gave these books a 4 or 5 star rating are friends of the family that didn't read the books. I will not try another of his books until they have a sizable number of reviews.

The Fire of Kings Book Two of The Dragon Eyes Chronicles eBook David S Wells Rebecca M Wells Reviews

Very redundant, it could be a good story except for his constant use of the hero titles. It gets in the way of the story
So far, this series has been enjoyable if just a little predictable. I like the application of middle ages dialect and manner of speaking. It is reminiscent of Arthurian tales.
I enjoyed reading the entire series. Disappointed with the 5th book. Way too much filler to get to the end. Now reading the 6th book which so far promises not to have too much filler.
This book continues to pull you into the story. Although it is a classic fantasy theme, the writer has an artistic craft with words. His characterization is well founded and the plot is intriguing. I look forward to future chapters in this and other books David Wells writes.
I read the Sovereign of the Seven Isles series by this author and found it entertaining if not great. The first chapter of this book is so awful that I see no reason to even attempt to pick it up again. So yes, I did not finish it.
I enjoyed this book as much as the first book, it is a well written tale of adventure, war and love. Loric is a great and heroic leader who does not want to be king but he may not have a say in the matter. There are some great characters in this story like Barag (Lorics' childhood nemesis) who turns out to be a good man. If you liked the first book you will like this book, it is a solid follow up book. Enjoy.
This book was even more exciting than the first book in the Dragon Eyes Chronicles. It's loaded with terrific adventures. The hero battles a wide range of opponents while taking a lot of damage in his endeavor to find to retrieve the Dragon Eyes gem and the sword of kings. He hopes to find a lord worthy of being king despite others wanting him to be the king. Hopefully this superb author will write more adventures in this outstanding series!
